Sports and Entertainment Associate
Joins Business & Corporate Practice

April 16, 2008

Sherman & Howard L.L.C. is pleased to announce that Leigh L. Augustine has joined the Firm as an Associate in the Business & Corporate Practice Group. In his eight years of practice, Mr. Augustine has established a national reputation for his counsel to individuals and organizations within the sports and entertainment industries. His practice includes such activities as negotiating sponsorship agreements, talent agreements, television and movie production agreements, and television broadcast rights agreements, as well as counseling individuals on their rights of publicity, and advising corporate clients on trademark, copyright, Internet, and business formation and development strategies. Mr. Augustine brings these areas of practice to Sherman & Howard's already impressive array of legal strengths.

"Sports and entertainment law go hand in hand with intellectual property," said Augustine. "These areas of practice present the challenge of protecting intangible assets, while simultaneously capitalizing on the value of the client's achievements."

Mr. Augustine's business and entertainment backgrounds combine with his experience as a former All-American lacrosse player to place him in a position to understand and represent the intellectual property concerns of athletes, artists, entertainers, brands, teams, events, and venues. He has negotiated contracts for nationally-known athletes, concert venues, universities, and athletic events, among others.

Prior to joining Sherman & Howard in 2008, Mr. Augustine was the vice president and general counsel at a marketing agency between 2000-2001, owned his own law firm from 2001-2005, and then became an Associate at a leading law firm in Denver. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 1998, and his B.S. in Business from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1994. He has published articles on endorsements, sponsorships, and copyrights in The Colorado Lawyer, The Villanova Sports & Entertainment Law Journal, and the ABA's Sports & Entertainment Law Journal. He has also taught Sports Law as an adjunct professor at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law since 2006.

Sherman & Howard L.L.C., established in 1892, assists its clients in most aspects of law affecting businesses and public institutions. Sherman & Howard has offices in Denver, Colorado Springs, Steamboat Springs and Vail, Colorado; Phoenix, Arizona; and Reno and Las Vegas, Nevada.
