Alternative Dispute Resolution

Sherman & Howard's alternative dispute resolution attorneys regularly counsel clients on the advantages and disadvantages of alternatives to litigation. Litigation is costlier now than ever before, yet in some instances it accomplishes less than it once did toward satisfying the needs of involved parties. In these situations, we help resolve conflicts outside of the courtroom, thereby preserving client resources as well as personal and business relationships. Methods of alternative dispute resolution that we practice include: arbitration, both as advocates and as arbitrators, on topics comprising the entire range of disputes covered by our litigation practice; formal and informal mediation, in which a neutral third party assists disputants in negotiating a settlement; and non-binding mini-trials, in which counsel for the parties make summary presentations of a case to a neutral, third party advisor with specialized expertise on the subject matter.
