Alternative Energy and CleanTech

As alternative energy development continues to expand, and with the signing of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act in February 2009, innovation in wind energy, solar, biofuels, geothermal, Smart Grid and other sustainable technologies will present unprecedented business opportunities. From formation forward, Sherman & Howard has solid experience addressing the wide range of legal and business issues relevant to alternative energy businesses. We represent leading Smart Grid vendors as well as  utilities employing cutting-edge Smart Grid/AMI technologies. We facilitate the development and implementation of large solar and wind projects and ensure that our clients are aware of legal and business issues and opportunities which may affect their business plans. We have helped clients take advantage of tax incentives provided under the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 as well as Title III of the Energy Policy and Conservation Act. We have also helped them draw upon funding resources including Clean Energy Renewable Bonds, Qualified Energy Conservation Bonds and Innovative Technology Loan Guarantees available under the 2009 Stimulus Plan and the Energy Policy Act of 2005. We have represented clients in critical discussions with public utility commissions, environmental commissions, licensing authorities and other important state and federal agencies. And, we have represented clients in connection with power purchase agreements, project development and financing for wind, gas, and hydro-electric generation projects. In addition, we regularly help clients address the full portfolio of intellectual property matters that come with the formation of any new business.
